Purpose Formal Calcium Fixative/Baker's; recommended for the preservation of lipids, especially phospholipids.
Ingredients Formaldehyde, Calcium chloride, Methanol
Working Principle Formal Calcium Fixative (Baker's Formol-Calcium) is a fixation solution used for specific purposes in histology. Similar to standard formalin, it stabilizes proteins, but thanks to the calcium ions it contains, it is more effective in preserving cellular structures containing lipids.
Warnings, Precautions, Recommendations Danger. Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. May cause respiratory irritation. Suspected of causing cancer. Do not breathe dust/fumes/gas/mist/vapor/spray. Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection. IF ON SKIN (or hair): Immediately remove all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. IF INHALED: Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. IF EXPOSED OR AFFECTED: Get medical attention/care. If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention.
