2407-Platelet Count Solution
Title
Description
REF No
2407
Purpose
Used in platelet count.
Ingredients
Trisodium Citrate, Formaldehyde, Preservative
Working Principle
To provide a suitable environment for accurate counting of platelets (cells that play an important role in blood clotting).
Warnings, Precautions, Recommendations
Danger. May cause cancer. Obtain special instructions before use. Do not handle until all precautionary statements have been read and understood. Use personal protective equipment. IF exposed or concerned: Get medical advice/attention. Store locked up.
Application
1- A red bead red blood cell counting pipette is taken. Blood is drawn up to the 1 mark. 2- Reagent is taken. The reagent is drawn up to the 101 mark.
3- The pipette is shaken. The first few drops are poured out.
4- A new Thoma counting chamber is taken and a few drops of the reagent-blood mixture in the pipette are dropped. 5- The coverslip is placed over the chamber.
6- All red blood cells in the 5 separate areas of the small square are counted.
7- Red blood cells on the left and upper lines are also included in the count. However, red blood cells on the right and lower lines are not included in the count.
8- The total number of red blood cells found is multiplied by 10,000. The result gives the total number of red blood cells in 1 mm3.
9- Platelets are also counted without delay in all areas where red blood cells are counted. Platelets are approximately one tenth the size of red blood cells, darker and bluish in color than red blood cells, and are in the form of light-reflecting flakes.
10. The total of platelets counted in 5 areas is multiplied by 10,000. The number in 1 mm3 is found.
Theoretical Results
Thrombocytes are approximately one tenth the size of red blood cells, darker and bluish in color than red blood cells, and are in the form of light-reflecting flakes.
