| Working Principle |
Lugol's solution is a laboratory reagent used in the diagnosis of microscopic organisms such as protozoan cysts.
Due to its iodine content, Lugol's solution binds to the starch particles in the cell structure of protozoan cysts (e.g. Giardia intestinalis or Entamoeba histolytica), allowing these cysts to be seen more clearly. This facilitates the identification of protozoan cysts under the microscope.
When used for this purpose, Lugol's solution makes the structures inside the cysts more prominent and facilitates diagnosis. This solution is used in the preparation of slides before staining the cysts and allows easier identification of protozoan cysts in slides prepared for microscopic examination. Caution. Causes skin irritation.
Causes severe eye irritation. Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection.
If you feel unwell, call the POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
IN CASE OF CONTACT WITH SKIN: Wash with plenty of soap and water.
IN CASE OF EYE CONTACT: Rinse carefully with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if worn and easy to do so. Continue rinsing. |

Since the product is concentrated, it is diluted in half with distilled water. Then 1 drop of this solution is placed on a slide. Take a small piece of feces and make a homogeneous suspension in iodine solution on the slide, cover it with the slide and press a little to obtain a thin preparation. Wait for 10-20 minutes and examine under a microscope. |
