Purpose It is used for the detection of malaria parasites in blood and for the separation and examination of blood cells.

Working Principle May Grünwald stain is a Romanowsky neutral stain based on a combination of methylene blue, azur as a dye component and eosin as an acid dye component. It is intended for use in the staining of blood samples or bone marrow samples. It is routinely used in haematology.
Warnings, Precautions, Recommendations Danger. Highly flammable liquid and vapor. Toxic if swallowed, in contact with skin, or inhaled. Causes damage to organs. Precautionary statement(s): Keep away from heat/sparks/flames/hot surfaces. – No smoking. Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection. IF ON SKIN (or hair): Immediately remove all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. IF INHALED: Remove the affected person in fresh air and keep them in a comfortable position to breathe easily. IF EXPOSED: CALL THE NATIONAL POISON CONTROL CENTER AT 114 or a doctor/physician. Store in a well-ventilated area. Keep cool.
Application Product Usage: May-Grünwald Staining
1. Cover the smear with May-Grünwald Stain (GBL-2306) for 3–5 minutes.
2. Rinse with distilled water.
3. Proceed to the Giemsa staining step (GBL-2408).
4. Air-dry and examine under a microscope.
Preparation of Staining Solution (Concentrated Giemsa Solution)
• Add 5 mL Giemsa Solution (GBL-2408) to the staining container.
• Add 45 mL of distilled water and mix gently.
Giemsa Staining Procedure
1. Cover the prepared slide with methanol and fix for 5 minutes.
2. Immerse or cover the slide with the prepared staining solution.
3. After 15–30 minutes, remove the slide and gently drain excess stain.
4. Rinse with distilled water and allow it to dry.
5. Examine under a microscope.
